Keeping it in the room: health, happiness and living in Berlin
Homophobic bakers Sweet Cakes By Melissa, which refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple early this year, has closed its doors for good.
Although there was initially a surge in business for the Oregon-based bakers, that soon dropped off with a dramatic downturn in wedding cake business. Owners Aaron and Melissa Klein said that their vendors were harassed to the point they would no longer refer customers, which led to their income dropping off dramatically.
The sign on the door read: ‘[tweetable alt=”US bakery ‘Sweet Cakes By Melissa’ remain defiant after going out of business following homophobic customer service”]Closed, but still in business… This fight is not over.[/tweetable] We will continue to stand strong. Your Religious Freedom is becoming not Free anymore. This is ridiculous that we can not practice our faith. The LORD is good and we will continue to serve HIM with all our heart.’
A victory for consumer power.
