The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, who recently described gay people as unnatural in an interview on CNN has been sent a book on homosexuality in animals by German dating website Gleichklang.

Biological Exuberance – Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, by Canadian biologist Bruce Bagemihl, documents homosexual behaviour in more than 450 animal species. It was sent by the dating company to the presidential office in Kampala, and to the Ugandan Embassy in Berlin.

Museveni’s administration has been linked to the systematic persecution of homosexual men and women in Uganda.

In an accompanying letter, the director of Gleichklang, Seksan Ammawat, and the psychologist Dr Guido F. Gebauer point to the contradiction of regarding a sexual orientation as ‘unnatural’ when it occurs in nature in both humans and animals. While they do not expect to receive any reply, they hope that the book will make Museveni aware of the common occurrence of homosexual behaviour in nature.

It is not known whether Museveni will need to pay a taxi surcharge if he were to send a car to collect the book from the postal sorting office.
