Shadow Cabinet member Angela Eagle MP helped to launch the Diversity Careers Show in London’s Covent Garden on Friday.

Eagle, the first out gay woman to sit in the House of Commons, thanked exhibitors for taking part in the event, which promotes employment opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.

The MP, who is also chair of the Labour Party, said: ‘The Diversity Careers Show is a fantastic event that supports people from diverse backgrounds into work environments that are supportive and understanding.’

‘It is particularly important for gay and lesbian job seekers who are striving to achieve their potential. An environment that recognises a diverse workplace gets the best results.’

Almost 2,000 people attended the Stonewall-supported show, which included free vocational training modules, help and advice on interview and CV technique, as well as a series of seminars from top employers as diverse as the British Army, Tesco and Google.
